Our whole family is a big fan of old movies! And, as home school parents, we even use watching a movie as an opportunity to learn; we'll discuss such things as the era in which a movie occurred, the good and bad aspects of its characters or anything else that comes to mind. You'd be surprised how often these themes come up in daily conversation.
Here's a little information about the movies that we really enjoy... or not.
This movie offers a glimpse into one of the most beautiful books of the Bible. Unfortunately, poor casting, weak directing and unrefined writing, merge to create an unforgettably flimsy film. The plot is exceptional, but between unauthentic costumes and questionable make-up, there were quite a few inaccuracies. Some of the scenery appeared to be taken from a school play backdrop (i.e. gold-painted columns), yet at the same time, there were some locationally correct scenes, despite being shot in the United States. Still, the script included words not yet invented (for example, "We gotta focus on the grain, sir.") and scenes never even remotely mentioned in the Bible. This, paired with an abundance of dispassionate acting, produced a generally dissatisfying and unpolished production.
For those who just bought the movie, and after reading this want to return it, there is a bright side. This movie can be used to practice your ability to discern Biblical inaccuracy in things. And for those of you thinking of making a movie, it is a chance to learn what not to do. Overall, it's not a keeper. But that's just our opinion.

This wonderful movie follows the life story of George M. Cohan, the legendary composer, actor and producer. From Vaudeville to Broadway, his story is both exciting and inspiring! Unfortunately, there were several key events in the movie that did not follow the real life of Cohan, such as having been married only once and receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor (he received the Congressional Gold Medal). Overall, it's a keeper. But that's just our opinion.
